  1. During this trimester, students will learn and apply basic and advanced features of and features of Adobe Photoshop. 
  2. Students will learn advanced features in MS PowerPoint and compare the two programs.
  3. Students will gain a solid understanding of how Photoshop and MS PowerPoint can be used for graphic design projects.
  4. Students will use Digital Camera to obtain a photo of yourself posed appropriately for your magazine cover.
  • To create stunning and effective design projects, Students will learn from the ground up with confidence.
  • To begin this course, this learning path will show you how to take advantage of a wide range of tools in MS PowerPoint and Photoshop to better your graphic design projects.

PROJECT 1: Create a Magazine Cover in MS PowerPoint Using Advanced Features

There are more special effects that will be demonstrated in class.   The videos below are to provide you with inspiration for your magazine cover.  You will be provided with the opportunity to create your cover step-by-step with the teacher. 
 
DO NOW:  Use headphones to review videos below.  You may use your on headphones if they are in this classroom but can not leave to get them out of your locker or elsewhere.  Start with Part 1 Quickstart Guide and work your way though the videos.
  1. Students will create a magazine cover in MS PowerPoint. Students will use advanced tools to modify and create graphic design elements.

CREATE COVER  (Power Standards 1 and 2)
  1. Create magazine cover template, save in the required location and file name.
  2. Add magazine cover elements including
    1. Title
    2. Three (3) magazine titles
    3. Background
    4. Isolated photo of yourself
    5. A minimum of three (special effects)

Create a Cover Using MS PowerPoint

Students will create a magazine cover utilizing advanced MS PowerPoint elements 
 IDENTIFY COVER ELEMENTS (Power Standards 1 and 2)
  1. MAGAZINE FOCUS: Students will create a magazine cover featuring you!
  2. THEME: Identify magazine cover theme and elements.
  1. EQUIPMENT: After theme and elements have been identified, a camera can be borrowed from Mr. Roth to shoot photos in the studio in front of the green screen.Please be sure there is a camera card in the camera for easier download to your computer.The camera should be returned to Mr. Roth at the end of the period. 

Introduction to Photoshop
The idea of getting started in Photoshop can seem overwhelming for most. So many options, tools, windows etc. In this 3 part series, we will give you a quick start guide. This should have you up and using Photoshop in no time! ​

PROJECT:  Magazine Cover
Students will create a magazine cover utilizing basic Adobe Photoshop elements 
 IDENTIFY COVER ELEMENTS (Power Standards 1 and 2)
      1. Identify magazine cover theme and elements.
      2. Students will sign on Edmodo to receive assignment and reply in Edmodo by clicking on TURN IN.
 
CREATE COVER  (Power Standards 1 and 2)
  1. Create magazine cover template, save in the required location and file name.
  2. Add magazine cover elements including
    1. Title
    2. Three (3) magazine titles
    3. Background
    4. Isolated photo of yourself
    5. A minimum of three (special effects)
  3. Save file as JPG and insert into teacher's PowerPoint
